TechSmith Snagit 2020 | TechSmith is known for productivity tools like Snagit, Camtasia, and more. As an ardent user of TechSmith products such as Camtasia and Snagit from past many years, I highly recommend to anyone who wants to improve their productivity and save manual effort. Recently TechSmith released its latest iteration of Snagit and this blog post features what’s new in Snagit 2020.
What is Snagit?
Snagit is a software which helps you to capture screenshots, screen recording and many more. It works on Windows and Mac OS. Snagit been used by many fortune companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and more. Below is the screenshot of Snagit user interface.
What’s new in TechSmith Snagit 2020?
TechSmith started naming its software versions; instead of sequential or major release number, it’s using the year. The latest iteration of Snagit is 2020.0.0 Build 4460.
Snagit comes with two piece of software: Snagit Capture and Snagit Editor.
Snagit Capture helps you to capture the screenshot or screen recording. You can customize the shortcut, selections, time delay, presets etc.
Snagit Editor helps you to edit the captured screenshots or you can create a new image. You can do cropping, add effects to the image, resize image, add graphics, extract text, and lot more.
Now we will see what’s new in Snagit 2020?
Create Image from Template
Go to Snagit Editor, click on Create (at the top left corner, just beneath the File Menu) > Image from Template.
Now you can create your image from the template for your website mock ups, presentation, infographics etc in few clicks.
You can download more templates from here. Below is the image I created within few clicks.
Narrate and Mark Up Images
From the same menu as above, select Narrate and Mark Up Images where you can narrate your sequence by navigating your captured screenshots. Even, you can record your voice and create a short animation. Once you are done, you can save it as GIF or PNG file format.
Simplify your image
Now you can create mock ups and focus on your content by simplifying your image automatically or manually. Below is the sample screenshots Before and After manual simplification.
I personally don’t prefer Auto Simplify option as it is not a perfect simplification. But you can set the detail between 1 to 10 and see which one will work it out for your image.
Favorite your favorites
It is not a super cool feature, but it will be a time saver if you are working on your frequent styles. Now you can favorite your favorites across your styles and see everything under one roof called Favorites for easy access.
It is a super cool feature where Snagit identifies movable objects and helps you to move it in your captured screenshots. This will be very helpful for UI designers.
You can set the detail level from 0 to 100. I prefer the level between 50-59 for the optimal moving.
Grab Text feature was already present in the past, but in this newer version, you can select the Selection as Grab Text in the Snagit Capture tool. Once the screen is captured, you can grab the text from the web page or image.
Snagit is the most affordable software for your screen capturing needs. One-time fee is $49.95. I prefer to add the One Year Maintenance fee which will cost you $12.49.
Following are the pros of it:
- Guaranteed next version – Snagit 2021
- Priority Support – Dedicated phone queue & expedited handling
- Volume Benefits – Cumulative discount with 5+ and same key
- Snagit Certification – Exclusive training to expand your skills
- Includes 2 installations per user
- Compatible with Windows and MacOS
- English, German, or French language versions
